It’s a Wrap… But the Adventure Is Just Beginning

Another season of gold mining is officially in the books for Hollon Gold.
If we’re being honest, this season didn’t exactly go the way we hoped. We found some gold, had a few good days on the river, explored new areas, tested equipment, and learned a lot — but this wasn’t one of those “strike it rich” seasons you see all over YouTube. And that’s okay.
Because real gold mining isn’t always about big nuggets and overflowing pans. Sometimes it’s about the grind. The research. The failures. The long drives. The breakdowns. The weather. The missed opportunities. And sometimes it’s simply about getting out there and chasing the adventure. That’s what Hollon Gold has always been about: The good, the bad, and the muddy.
Looking Back on This Season
This year took us across multiple mining areas and prospecting locations throughout Idaho. Some trips produced decent gold. Others were complete busts. But every trip taught us something.
Throughout the season, we:
Explored new prospecting locations
Tested different mining setups and recovery ideas
Worked river systems in both granite and basalt zones
Continued refining the Hollon Gold recovery systems
Researched historical mining areas
Learned what not to do in certain conditions
Pushed through equipment issues and setbacks
Like many small-scale miners, we discovered that success often comes one lesson at a time.
The Reality of Small-Scale Gold Mining
One thing we’ve always wanted this channel to show is reality.
A lot of content online focuses only on the wins — the big gold, the perfect cleanups, and the highlight reel moments. But most prospectors know the truth:
Gold mining is unpredictable.
Some days you hit decent ground. Some days, you move rocks for hours and barely see color. Some days, equipment fights you every step of the way. That’s part of what makes every ounce earned feel worth it.

What’s Coming This Summer
Even though this season is ending, the biggest adventures may still be ahead.
This summer, we’re shifting into exploration mode and preparing for several major adventures and projects, including:
Hells Canyon Wilderness Horseback Expedition
One of the biggest trips we’ve ever planned.
We’ll be heading deep into remote country by horseback and mule train to explore historic gold-bearing anicent river channel high in the Seven Devils. This is rugged backcountry terrain with a history of placer gold discoveries — and no guarantees.
Salmon River Dredging/Sniping Operations
We’ll continue refining our dredging setups and exploring new stretches of river while searching for overlooked gold-bearing zones and sniping for gold if the conditions are right.
Exploring Moch’s Hole
This has become one of the most interesting projects we’ve worked on. Using mapping technology, live forward facing sonor, river research, and historical mining information, we’ll begin investigating one of the most intriguing stretches of the Salmon River.
LiDAR & AI Gold Research
We’re continuing to combine old-school prospecting knowledge with modern technologies such as LiDAR terrain analysis, mapping software, and AI-assisted research to locate potential placer targets. Some of the most exciting discoveries may happen before we ever put a shovel in the ground.
Thank You for Watching
We truly appreciate everyone who followed along this season.
Whether you’ve been here since the beginning or just recently found the channel, thank you for supporting Hollon Gold and being part of the adventure. Your comments, ideas, encouragement, and shared passion for prospecting help keep this going.
This may be the end of the current season…
But it’s definitely not the end of the adventure.
See you in the mountains.
